Student Field Researchers Are All Abuzz

Student field researchers recently had an up-close experience learning about beekeeping. Students were able to interact with bees and watch bee hives in action. They also had the opportunity to collect fresh honey and taste it.

Mr. Mohlman said, "During the first year, there's not much honey to be harvested since the honey bees will need to store the honey to make it through the winter, when there's not much pollen to collect. But we had just enough for a small taste so far. It was delicious!"

Students have been assisting with maintaining St. Stephen's population of over 20,000 honey bees for many years. As part of our Outdoor Education Program, student field researchers develop specialized skills and knowledge about varying aspects of the natural environment, including stewardship of the land.
