Spartan Athletes of the Week: Maya Patel and Josh Mugo

Maya Patel '26 dominated the attacking third of the pitch on Saturday in Varsity Field Hockey's 5-0 conference victory over Greenhill School (Addison, TX). Patel, who has split time between forward and midfield lines this fall, has a knack for dodging defenders and ripping shots. In the first half, Patel received a ball off her right foot with her back to goal and fired a reverse shot to the back of the cage. Later in the game, she scored on an attacking penalty corner, finding a narrow gap on the near post. 

"Maya has silky smooth skills - something we've seen that all season long," remarked Field Hockey Program Head Chelsea Richards. "On Saturday, she was feisty and finished plays, scoring a couple of highlight-worthy goals."

Patel and the Varsity Field Hockey team travel to Pennsylvania on Thursday to play The Hill School (Pottstown, PA) on Friday and Springside Chestnut Hill Academy (Philadelphia, PA) on Saturday. 

Josh Mugo '27 delivered an outstanding performance in last week’s Spartan Boys Volleyball matchup against Awty International, hitting an impressive 16 of 28 (.393). His efforts played a crucial role in the team’s dominant three-set victory.
