The Rev. P. Roger Bowen recently was honored by the National Association of Episcopal School (NAES) for his dedicated and exemplary work in and service to Episcopal schools. Bowen, who served as head of St. Stephen's Episcopal School from 2002–07, received the John D. Verdery Award during the 2012 NAES Biennial conference in Baltimore.
Bowen is currently the principal liaison in the United States to the Episcopal Diocese of Haiti Partnership Program and a tireless champion and advocate for the 254 schools in that diocese. He began his career as a parish priest in West Virginia and then worked in the Peace Corps in Tonga. He went on to serve as chaplain at St. Albans School in Washington, D.C., and the Church Farm School in Exton, Penn. He then served as upper school head at St. Stephen's in Austin, Texas, and St. Agnes School in Alexandria, Va., and then headmaster of York School in Monterrey, Calif. before returning to St. Stephen's as head of school. Bowen is the author of "Opportunities for Ministry in Episcopal Schools" in the 1997 edition of Reasons for Being: The Culture and Character of Episcopal Schools, published by NAES.
