Spartan Athletes of the Week: Mirta O'Mahony and Carolina Reyna

This week, two athletes from our Championship-winning Girls Soccer team earn Spartan Athlete of the Week honors! Both Mirta O’Mahony ’27 and Carolina Reyna ’28 played pivotal roles in all three of the team’s victories at the Southwest Preparatory Conference 4A Tournament over the weekend.

Goalkeeper Mirta O’Mahony recorded one shutout and only conceded two goals over the course of three games. Notably, she held top-seeded Episcopal High School (Houston, TX) to one goal – an opponent who averaged nearly five goals per game in conference play.

Forward Carolina Reyna notched three goals and one assist over the course of three games, challenging top defenders with impressive speed. Reyna’s go-ahead goal in the championship game against Hockaday (Dallas, TX) with only six minutes remaining in regulation was icing on the cake for the ninth-grader’s first SPC Tournament.

“In many ways, Mirta and Carolina could not be more different,” commented Head Coach Andy Aceves. “They play at opposite ends of the field, and they have very different ways of expressing themselves and influencing their team. But it's fitting that they should both receive this honor on the heels of our SPC Championship because what they share in common was on full display in some of the most pivotal moments of our tournament run: They are game changers—simple as that. When the stakes were at their highest, Mirta and Carolina both embraced the responsibility that comes with their roles, the responsibility to score or prevent the goals that can determine a game. They are great players and even better kids, and they both showed tremendous character in our SPC run.”
