Spartan Athletes of the Week: Kennedy Lartigue and Gabe Sahely
Congratulations to Varsity Basketball players Kennedy Lartigue ’27 and Gabe Sahely ’25 for earning Spartan Athlete of the Week honors!
Ninth-grader Kennedy Lartigue continues to shine on the Varsity Girls Basketball team this season, leading the team in scoring, steals and deflections this winter. The Spartans went 1-1 in their conference games over the weekend in Houston. They secured a big win against Awty International School, in large part due to Lartigue’s dominance on the court. Impressively, she scored a season-high of 22 points and led the team in steals on Friday night with a total of eight. Girls Basketball Program Director Dustin Armstrong applauded Lartigue’s performance.
“Last weekend’s win against Awty is a testament to her hard work and dedication to Spartan Basketball,” said Armstrong. “I can’t wait to see what she achieves next!”
Gabe Sahely has stepped up on both ends of the court for Varsity Boys Basketball this season. While in San Diego at the Surf N’ Slam Tournament, Sahely was named to the All-Tournament Team. He also showed up in a big way when the team defeated The Kinkaid School in their first Southwest Preparatory Conference game after winter break. As a wing shooter, Sahely stretches the floor for the Spartans, knocking down clutch shots or creating space for teammates to drive. He makes a big difference for the team, averaging 12 points and seven rebounds per game. Boys Basketball Program Director Lamont King praised Sahely’s attention to detail.
“He’s doing the little things on the court – in practice and in games – to help the team, and the coaching staff and his teammates are taking note!” said King.
Spartan Basketball teams are gearing up for another weekend of conference play with home games on Friday and Saturday against Houston Christian High School and The John Cooper School in The Woodlands, respectively. Varsity Girls Basketball tip-off is at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, and Varsity Boys Basketball competes at 7 p.m. Catch them in Clayton Gym or watch the livestream here.
