Varsity Field Hockey hosted crosstown rival St. Andrew's last week for a non-conference match. While the Spartans conceded an early goal from a Highlander penalty corner, the team maintained composure for the remainder of the first half. As the game went on, the Spartans found their footing, dominating possession and out-shooting their opponents in the second half. Emilia Fink ’26 scored the game-tying goal with six minutes left on the clock, and Clare Burkhart ’26 recorded the go-ahead goal shortly after.
"I'm proud of how our team sustained pressure against St. Andrew's. They trusted one another, and, as the game progressed, the team made positive changes," said Field Hockey Program Head Chelsea Richards. "We're learning how to play high-pressure games, and that's really fun."
Come cheer on the Spartan Varsity Field Hockey team in their first Southwest Preparatory Conference games this weekend against Holland Hall School (Tulsa, OK) on Friday, September 6 at 6:30 p.m. and Casady School (Oklahoma City, OK) on Saturday, September 7 at 10:30 a.m.
Varsity Football kicked off their season on the road against the New Braunfels Thunder last Friday. From start to finish, the Spartans controlled the pace of the game. Quarterback Basil Baldwin IV ’26 and Utility Ironman Sebi Creixell ’26 had standout performances that helped carry the team to their 34-19 victory.
“I was proud of the way the players set the tempo early,” commented Football Program Head Jay Patterson “We need to make sure we are able to continue dominating the pace throughout the course of the season moving forward.”
Spartan Varsity Football hosts St. Augustine High School (Laredo, TX) in their home opener on Friday, September 6 at 7:30 p.m. on Denius Field.
Girls Varsity Volleyball added to the win column on Tuesday evening, defeating Austin’s Hyde Park Panthers in straight sets.
“Our first win is a testament to the hard work we’ve put in on the small details,” remarked Girls Volleyball Program Head Cursty LeRoux. “By staying process-driven and focusing on our systems, we’ve learned what it means to be great teammates – showing up with great body language, a positive attitude and relentless hustle and grit. A lot of players contributed, and our sideline was fully engaged, proving that anyone can step in and make a difference. This victory is just the beginning of what we can achieve together.”
Boys Varsity and JV Volleyball travels to Houston this Friday, September 6 to compete in the Houston Cup over the weekend. As the Spartans close out their preseason work, the teams are eager to face conference opponents in non-conference play.
“The team continues to put in hard work at practice and we are making strides as a group,” said Varsity Boys Volleyball Head Coach Dakota Goin. “We are looking forward to the competition this weekend.”
The Boys and Girls Varsity Spartan Cross Country teams are gearing up for THEIR next challenge at the St. Andrew's Cross Country Invitational at St. Andrew’s Upper School campus in southwest Austin on Saturday, September 7. After the squad’s strong showing on August 24, Cross Country Program Head Coach Greg Cook is eager to see what heights his team will reach next.
“We’ve had a great week of training,” commented Coach Cook. “This weekend will be a great opportunity to test ourselves against top SPC competition.”
