Student Haiti Club Hosts Inaugural Soccer Spectacular
On Saturday, February 17, the student-led Haiti Club hosted its first annual 4v4 St. Etienne Soccer Spectacular raising close to $1,000. The campus community event celebrated a 20-plus year partnership with our partner school St. Etienne Episcopal School in Salmadere, Haiti. 17 Middle and Upper School teams, along with enthusiastic participation from faculty and parents, engaged in a World Cup-style tournament. The day unfolded with a dynamic round-robin group stage in the morning, followed by intense knockout rounds in the afternoon. Adding a unique touch to the event, a pop-up marketplace offered an array of goods for sale like Haitian metal ornaments, hand-painted cards, t-shirts and handcrafted necklaces created from Haitian glass beads and more.
The funds will support ongoing education for more than 400 kindergarten through eighth grade students attending St. Etienne.
The tournament was made possible by the exceptional leadership from Haiti Club co-sponsors Sophia Fan ’24 and Cameron Carper ’25, along with support from Dean of Faculty Wallis Goodman, Film and Theatre Instructor Mike Dolan and Haiti Club Sponsor and Math Instructor Rebecca Gibbs. The Haiti Club is already looking forward to hosting another spectacular tournament, and is hoping to host it around the same time next year.
