Members of the St. Stephen’s Board of Trustees and administration, Still Water Foundation board and staff, and project partners gathered on Thursday, September 5 to mark the groundbreaking of the Still Water Foundation Aquatic Center, a transformative project made possible by the generous support of the Still Water Foundation. Slated to open in fall 2025, the new aquatic center will feature a 50-meter, Olympic-length pool that will dramatically enhance Spartan athletic programming. Learn more about this
extraordinary gift.
Event attendees were driven to the groundbreaking site along a new roadway named the "Spartan Loop," currently under construction. Funded by $3 million in anonymous donations, the Spartan Loop will provide a pedestrian-friendly pathway, reduce through traffic in residential areas, and enhance access to the new aquatic center, tennis courts and playing fields.
The ceremony featured remarks from the Rt. Rev. Kai Ryan, Chair of the St. Stephen’s Board of Trustees and honorary campaign chair, Chris Gunnin, Head of School, and Jennifer Stayton ’85, Executive Chair of the Board of Trustees, who recognized the collective effort behind the project and expressed their deep gratitude to all involved. Following the ceremonial turning of soil, Bishop Ryan concluded with a blessing and by leading attendees in the school prayer.
The groundbreaking marks a milestone not only for St. Stephen’s but also for its dynamic future, as the school embarks on a bold and ambitious comprehensive campaign in tandem with its 75th anniversary in the 2025-26 academic year. The campaign for St. Stephen’s will enhance all areas of living and learning, from new and improved facilities to bolstered endowments that support faculty financial aid and scholarships, programs and curriculum. To date, the Spartan community has generously given over $40 million to the campaign.
