Percussion Ensemble Camp (Beginners)
Beginner Percussion Camp is for students who are interested in learning how to play percussion! During this week students will learn about each instrument in the percussion family and learn the proper techniques needed to play correctly. Campers will learn to read percussion music, develop their counting and subdividing skills, and rehearse together with other campers in an ensemble setting. Instruments to be covered include snare drum, marimba, timpani, hand drums, drumset, vibraphone, and all auxiliary percussion. At the end of the week, students will showcase their newfound skills for family and friends on the Friday concert!
Join us for a week of performing music in a percussion ensemble! Intended for students to broaden their studies in percussion, this camp allows students the opportunity to develop proficiencies on many different percussion instruments, while learning the skills needed to perform in this unique type of ensemble. Campers will play music from today's most sought-after percussion composers, and perform together on a final Friday concert under the direction of Andrew Dobos. Instruments include marimba, hand drums, drumset, vibraphone, timpani, all auxiliary percussion, and more!
Prerequisite: Must have basic sheet music reading experience.
Join us for a week of playing the percussion music of Brazil! During this week students will learn how to play percussion instruments found in a typical escola de samba (samba performing group) and prepare music for an end-of-week concert. The week will feature rehearsals, guest speakers, and listening sessions all centered around Brazilian percussion. Students will learn about Brazilian culture, Carnaval, and the techniques needed to perform the popular styles of Brazilian percussion, including samba batucada, maracatu, Samba Afro, and more!
Prerequisite: Some percussion experience is required.
